Cheap Lahaul Valley Tour Packages, Best Travel Agent in Lahaul Valley, Local Travel Agent in Lahaul Valley, TravelHed, My childhood started with an early introduction to the mighty Himalayas. Last year, I went to Keylong, the district headquarter of Lahaul valley. First we reached Manali, the famous travelling spot of Himachal Pradesh in Kullu valley, by bus. It took around 16 long hours from Delhi for traversing almost 600 kms. of which 8 and half hours were on treacherous mountain roads. I feel sick specially in this part of drive when there is not much to see around. At 12.30 next day, our bus reached at Manali bus stand. The place once visited by me in the year 1988 changed a lot during the course of the years; it was in the month of June which is the peak of the tourist season and the only view I got around was millions of heads of human beings. We had a booking in The Beas, a tourist hotel run by HPTDC by the river Beas. The place was nice to stay specially hearing on the sound of river rapids nearby. We had a good meal in the Chandratal restaurant, though earlier run under HPTDC unit, now an individual private contract, delicacies of food have been added with a bit of professional flavor. Since it was the most crowded tourist spot last year, it was not easy to get a transport to Lahaul valley on following days. Buses run from 5 in the morning for various locations like Darcha, Udeypur but seats were not available. Hence we hired an alto car for 2500 INR up to Keylong. Our journey started at around 10.30 but after crossing Palchan towards Marhi, we found a lot of traffic jam uphill. By the time we reached at the top of Rohtang La (13050 ft.) we were delayed by two hours. Tourists mainly congest up to this place during their visit, for which traffic became less as we perched on top and started rolling down the slope. Due to snowmelt streams, it was often very unsuitable to sit comfortably on this bumpy road. After a brief halt at Koksar at a nearby Dhaba for hot food we were off to Keylong. As we progressed around Sissu, the scenic view starts changing. Before Rohtang La, one could see trees and bushes but on this side of the pass, we could hardly found greeneries along the road. But it was compensated by continuous flow of river Chandra which comes from Chandratal, a glacial lake at Spiti valley and meets with river Bhaga at Tandi, just 7 kms. short of Keylong. The road at this part of Himachal is specially maintained by the government to keep Leh well connected during this season when passes along higher Himalayas are open.
